A .WPS file is a word processing document that was composed with Microsoft Works. Microsoft Works is the baby brother of Microsoft Office — it has the same sort of applications, but on a smaller scale and with a less expensive price tag.
A friend sent me a .wps file. How do I open it?
A .WPS file can be opened with Microsoft Word. Just follow these steps:
- Right click on the .WPS file. The context menu will appear.
- Click on “Open with…”.
- Click on “Select the program from a list”.
- Choose “Microsoft Office Word” from the list of programs.
- When Word opens up, a dialog box will ask if you wish to convert the .WPS file from Microsoft Works format. Click “OK”, and the document will open up in Word.
If you would like to change this file to a more usable format, see our article “Convert .WPS File to .DOC”.
