Streaming YouTube videos in your PowerPoint presentation when an Internet connection is available.

Embedding YouTube videos in a PowerPoint presentation without an Internet connection.

Streaming YouTube videos in your presentation over an Internet connect is very simple — the YouTube Wizard plug-in adds an “Insert YouTube Video” to PowerPoint. You paste the URL to the video, the plug-in places the video in your presentation, and you are read to go… just make sure a ‘net connection is available on location.

The second method is a little more involved, but may be more reliable. This method does not require you to have an Internet connection when you deliver your presentation; instead you use a tool such as MediaConverter.org to download the video from YouTube, and then put it into your PowerPoint presentation with the “Insert Movie from file” command.

Unless you can be absolutely sure that you will have an Internet connect on location for your presentation and the video will be available at that time, I recommend the second method. You never know when WiFi will go down, or when a video will be removed from YouTube. By downloading the clip you avoid dealing with that hassle.
