An Introduction to Pownce

Pownce is a brand new social network that lets you broadcast messages, files, links, and more to your friends, as well as the rest of the Internet.

Pownce is a conversational web application that revolves around sending things to other people. Some of the things you can post to your Pownce stream are messages, photos, links, and events. Conversations start when others reply to the items you post.

Pownce members, like those of most other social networks, amass lists of friends. You may begin following other Pownce members in order to see their shared items on your home page. If that person chooses to accept your request, the two of you are then considered friends.

Items posted to a Pownce feed can be marked as public, for friends only, or private. Public items can be seen by anyone on the Internet. “Friends only” items are visible only to the people with whom you are friends. Private Pownce posts are directed at a specific person, and can only be accessed by yourself and the recipient.

Similar web applications to Pownce include Twitter, the Facebook feed, and Zooomr’s Zipline.

Pownce is available to anyone for free. A “Pro” version is available at $20 per year. Pro users can send larger files, design their own custom themes, and do not see advertisements.

If Pownce sounds interesting, sign up and get started posting. And if you are so inclined, you can start following my own Pownce feed.
