thank you for the template, has really helped us as my husband does plastering work and we are having problems with a customer who hasn’t paid him and he done the work 2 months ago! will pop an invoice in the post asap.

Tony’s dead on. ASAP cannot be emphasized enough. Confusion and disagreements increase dramatically with delay in billing.

One other point:

Get the invoices out asap - I mail mine the next day or sometimes even the same day I do the work.

The longer you wait, the more chance of disagreement or confusion.
