How can my company set up a Facebook profile to connect with other members?
Unfortunately for you, companies, or organizations of any kind for that matter, are forbidden from setting up Facebook profiles.
Facebook is well known for being a very closed environment with strict rules on who can join. The social networking site started out only allowing college students who could prove their enrollment status by signing up with a school-provided e-mail address. Facebook has allowed others to join now that their popularity has boomed, but they still only allow individuals to participate.
As of this writing, organizations of any kind are strictly prohibited from setting up Facebook profiles. Go ahead and try — Facebook has an algorithm that examines your full name, and hits the brakes when it spots anything that looks even remotely like the name of a company, club, team, or organization. You will only be allowed to pass through their sign-up process after you have supplied a full name that appears to be that of a real person.
It is possible to beat Facebook’s algorithms, however doing so does not mean you are in the clear. If Facebook identifies your profile as one that violates their terms of service, they will shut you down. If you plan on trying to game their system, first consider how much time and effort would be lost if they delete your profile and all associated friendships, data, photos, and posted items.
