I have had a very good relationship with Lulu and second the endorsement.

Couple pointers:

* If you're serious about the book, hire an editor before you publish it; have them review the manuscript before you lock it in.

* Lulu is not going to market your book (much); you must have a plan and be responsible for your book's success.

* Lulu does not have an affiliate program. Starting in 2008, I had to setup my own site to sell the electronic version of The LinkedIn Personal Trainer in order to start an affiliate program.

So the progression seems to be "author" -> "publisher" -> "marketer and salesperson", though if you're better than I, you'll start the marketing and sales effort sooner;-)

(oh - and it helps to develop "public speaker" through that process as well)
