What is Popular Screensavers?

Monday, March 24, 2008

My computer has started displaying something called “Popular Screensavers”, but I have no idea where it came from.

Popular Screensavers is part of the “My Web Search” package, and uses cookies to silently track usage. It’s not a terribly dangerous program, but I have seen it stealthily creep onto others’ computers, which is not cool. Removing Popular Screensavers from your system is a pretty simple process.

You can remove Popular Screensavers though the “Add/Remove Programs” utility in the Control Panel. Look for an entry called “My Web Search (Popular Screensavers)”, and remove it. There are also a few other similar programs that may have made their way onto your computer:

  • FunWebProducts
  • My Way Speedbar
  • Search Assistant

To remove these, along with My Web Search Popular Screensavers, follow these instructions from PC Hell.
