Hide the “Backwards P” Symbol in Word Documents

I’m not sure what I did, but how did I get rid of the backwards P symbols that are all over my Word files?

You are seeing formatting marks throughout your Microsoft Word Documents — that “backwards P” symbol is the paragraph mark, used to denote… paragraphs. I have come to think that accidentally activating this feature and being confused by the paragraph mark is a right of passage that many word processing novices must endure.

So good news: if you don’t like seeing paragraph markings throughout your Word documents, you can disable this feature rather quickly. Take a look at the toolbar at the top of your screen. In it, you should see a button that resembles the paragraph mark. Click that button, and the “backwards p” symbols disappear. Here is the location of the button:
