Why Did WordPress Make a Blank Post with the Title “!$title$!”

Don’t worry - your blog has not been compromised (to the best of my knowledge, anyway). Early versions of the WordPress iPhone client make a blank post to your blog after you configure the application. Last night after I set up WP for iPhone, I too noticed that each of my blogs had a new blank post.

The blank post published by the WordPress for iPhone client has the following contents:

  • Title: !$title$!
  • Body text: !$text$!
  • Categories: !$categories$!
  • Keywords: !$mt_keywords$

There doesn’t seem to be any other issues related to this weird phenomena, so I just deleted the blank posts from my blogs. You can do the same.

A number of other bloggers are having the same experience when installing WordPress on their iPhones. Theodore Lee writes wrote about it on his blog. Lots of Twitter users are tweeting about it. It appears that the WordPress team is aware of the issue, and is working on a fix.
