Once you have installed the software and drivers for your scanner, Adobe Photoshop is pretty smart about detecting the device and interfacing with it. Scanning documents and photos straight into Photoshop is a piece of cake, as I will illustrate in this tutorial.
Start the Importing Process
Scanning a document into Photoshop takes just a few clicks:
- Click “File”
- Click “Import”
- Look for the name of your scanner, and click on it.
I am using Canon’s CanoScan LiDE, as you can see in this screenshot:
Perform the Scanning Procedure
When you click on the name of your scanner, Photoshop will fire up the scanning software that you have installed. In this screen, you can see that Photoshop has started up the ScanGear application from Canon:
At this point, you can preview your document, adjust the cropping, change various other image quality settings, and finally perform the scan. When your scanner has finished, the scanned document will open up in Photoshop.
If you use a scanner made by a different manufacturer than mine (which is Canon), this final screen may appear differently. The process, however, should be very similar.
