Advertisement windows appear on my screen even when I’m not browsing web sites. What’s going on?
Download an anti-spyware program, install and run it. When it’s finished scanning your computer, the program will let you remove any malicious files it found from your system. We recommend the anti-spyware programs Ad-Aware and Spybot SD. If you have an anti-virus program such as Symantec or McAfee, you should scan with those as well.
Most anti-spyware and anti-virus programs have a “live update†feature that lets you download information about recent threats in order to keep yourself protected against all of the latest malware. You should use these update features frequently.
Spammers often distribute programs referred to as “spy-ware†or “ad-ware†to widen the reach of their advertisements. Once these programs find their way onto your computer, they continually launch bombard you with advertisements (ad-ware) and track your online activity (spy-ware). These programs fall under the general label of “mal-ware†because they are malicious programs written with dishonest intentions.
