How do I erase my browsing history in FireFox?
To clear out Firefox’s browsing history (also known as the cache), you need to use the “Clear Private Data” feature. Firefox’s “Clear Private Data” option is a one-click procedure that will erase the entire record of what you have been up to on the web. When you clear out FireFox’s cache, it gets rid of:
- Browsing History
- Download History
- Saved Form and Search History
- Cache
- Cookies
- Saved Passwords
- Authenticated Sessions
Each time you choose to clear out FireFox’s cache, you can choose which of these items should be erased, and which should remain intact.
Clear Private Data
To clear your private data from FireFox, click on “Tools”, then click on “Clear Private Data”. A new window will appear, and ask you which items you want to delete.

The items that have checks in their boxes will be deleted when you click the “Clear Private Data Now” button. Any item that does not have a check in its box will be left alone. This comes in very useful when you want to clear out your cache to free up disk space, but don’t want to lose your cookies and get logged out of the websites you’re a member of.
