Convert Images and PDF Documents to Text with OCR Terminal

Saturday, February 28, 2009

OCR Terminal is a web-based Optical Character Recognition service that is able to extract text from JPG images, TIFF images and PDF files. You can download the results in a variety of formats such as .rtf (Rich Text Format), .doc (Microsoft Word document), .txt and .pdf. The results of the OCR process can also be sent to your e-mail address.

OCR Terminal is completely web-based, and requires no software installation on your part. This makes it convenient to use… but of course, you should check with your employer and/or clients to confirm whether or not uploading confidential documents is a breach of contract.

OCR Terminal is in beta at the time of this writing, meaning the bugs are still being ironed out and the service may not be 100%. Also at this time the service is only compatible with English language documents.
