Improved Twitter Direct Message Management with DM Deleter

Saturday, March 7, 2009

DM Deleter is a JavaScript bookmarklet that gives you the capability to delete your Twitter Direct Messages in bulk. This little tool is easy to install and works with a variety of web browsers.

Direct Messages are private Twitter messages between two people. DMs can be deleted one-by-one, but at this time there is no bulk-deletion feature. The Twitter DM Deleter bookmarklet adds this capability.

When you load up your Direct Messages inbox on Twitter and click the “DM Deleter” bookmarklet, a new set of form fields will appear in your Twitter sidebar. With these controls, you can…

  • Delete all your direct messages.
  • Delete all direct messages from a specific user.
  • Delete all your sent DMs.
  • Delete all DMs that match a search string or regular expression.

Deleting Twitter direct messages is permanent. The author of Twitter DM Deleter has the following words of caution with regard to deleting sent DMs:

Please note that when you delete a message from your Sent mailbox, it will delete it from the recipient’s Inbox. The same applies for messages you have received.
