Once Windows Vista is released on January 30th, an extra download for Vista Ultimate Edition, called “Ultimate extras” will become available. In addition to security features and a poker game, Ultimate extras will include software called “Windows DreamScene”. According to this DreamScene web page, DreamScene will let you use any .mpeg or .wmv video file as your desktop background.
Will you use Windows Vista DreamScene? I primarily use a Mac, so for me the short answer is no. The long answer is: possibly, out of curiosity, but not for very long. While I was testing out Windows Vista, it only took two days for me to completely disable the Windows Sidebar because it was distracting me. Animated desktop wallpaper? Interesting, yes, but not my cup of tea.
