Remove the Sound from a Video File with Handbrake

You can remove the sound from a video file using Handbrake, which is a free, open source video transcoder which works on Windows, Linux and Mac OS X.

Step 1: Choose the Source Video

Start the Handbrake software and choose the source video file. If you want to make any changes to the encoding settings, you can do it on this first screen:

Underneath “Destination”, click “Browse” to choose the save location for the edited version of your video we’re about to configure.

Step 2: Remove the Audio

Click over to the “Audio & Subtitles” tab. In the “Audio Tracks” list you’ll see drop-down menus — choose “None” for each audio track you wish to remove.

Step 3: Export Your Video

Click the “Start” button and Handbrake will export a new copy of your video file, excluding all the audio tracks that you removed.
