VLC is an open source media player that can handle a wide variety of multimedia files. Among it’s many uses, VLC is great for playing WMV files on a Mac.
If you like VLC and have a Mac, you might want to make VLC the default application for all media files. The simple steps to doing this are in the first comment of this Ask Metafilter thread. In short, right-click (or hold CMD and click on) any media file. If you don’t already have VLC, you can download it from the Videolan website.
