Reader Tip: CTRL+K Sends Cursor to Firefox Search Box

Monday, February 26, 2007

Firefox iconReaders commenting on “Superfast Spelling Corrections with Firefox” offered up this great shortcut: hold CTRL and press K, and you’ll send the cursor up to the search box in Firefox. I previously just hit CTRL+L and then TAB, but hey, one less key to press is one less key to press.

Some other Firefox keyboard shortcuts I use frequently are:

  • Backspace: Go back. Same as hitting the back button.
  • Shift+Backspace: Go forward. Same as hitting the forward button.
  • F5: Reload the current page. (CTRL+F5 overrides the cache)
  • CTRL+L: Select the address bar.
  • CTRL+F: Find text in page.
  • CTRL+T: Open a new tab.

There’s a complete list of keyboard shortcuts at the Firefox help site.
