Google Maps has added a great new feature: up-to-date traffic information for major cities. Search for your city, and press the “traffic” button (it’s right next to “map”, “satellite”, and “hybrid”). Google Maps will trace over major roads with color coded lines that correspond to current traffic speeds. If a road is red you can expect heavy delays, and green & yellow roads indicate low and medium levels of traffic.
Examples of supported cities are San Francisco, New York, Chicago, and Dallas. Go to the front page of Google Maps (where you’ll see a map of the entire United States), and hit the “traffic” button to pop-up little traffic lights above all of the cities that are reporting traffic data.
I don’t know about you, but living in New York City, I’ll be hitting that “traffic” button a lot.
