One of Adam Knight’s readers hates when he accidentally hits the wrong icon in his Dock, and starts up a behemoth application like Final Cut Pro. I feel his pain, because I do this all the time, too. Your mouse is moving too fast, you’re not really paying attention, and all of a sudden you’ve clicked on the wrong icon. Usually you end up selecting an application that takes an eternity to load up, just so you can shut it down and go for the right one.
Adam outlines his solution to this momentary lapse in “The Dock Wants to Start a Program, Cancel or Allow?” Sweet and simple, Adam whipped up a few AppleScripts to replace these “behemoth programs” in the dock. When clicked, the Adam’s AppleScript asks if he’s sure that he wants to start up the application, and gives him a chance to say no.
