The GadgetTrak Recovery System is a new service designed to help you recover your stolen iPod, PSP, USB drive, digital camera, or other gadget. GadgetTrak enables your devices to “phone home” by giving you some special “agent files” to install. A device that’s reported stolen through the GadgetTrack system, and has the GadgetTrak agent files installed, will report back to GadgetTrak with various computer and network information that may be able to help identify the location of your stolen device, and possibly even the identity of the thief. Notifications are then e-mailed to you, the device’s rightful owner.
GadgetTrak provides free 30-day trial accounts, after which you may either cancel the service or upgrade to a paid subscription. Paid subscriptions to GadgetTrak cost only $1 per device, per month. Each paid subscription also includes access to reporting maps that show your device’s location geographically.
GadgetTrak provides stickers containing a URL and code for your device, so that whoever is in possession of it can contact you anonymously.
