Speed Up Adobe Acrobat Reader by Deleting One File

Adobe Acrobat ReaderGeek weblog ArsGeek offers the following tip to speed up Adobe Acrobat reader:

” … simply navigate to your %Program Files%\Adobe\Reader 8.0\reader\plug_ins folder, and rename (delete, copy elsewhere) the ‘accessability.api’ file. The same file exists, but in slightly different locations, in older version of Acrobat Reader.”

If your Adobe Acrobat Reader starts up slowly and displays a “please wait while the document is being prepared” message, this tip could make things operate significantly faster. When ArsGeek says %Program Files%, they are referring to the Program Files folder, which for most people is C:\Program Files. Therefore, the file you are looking to delete located at C:\Program Files\Adobe Reader 8.0\reader\plug_ins\accessability.api.

Thanks to Lifehack.org for the link. The Lifehack.org editors also suggest you try Foxit reader, an alternative to Adobe Acrobat.
