Compatibility between iTunes and non-iPod MP3 players

I have an MP3 player (not an iPod) and some songs that I purchased from the iTunes Music Store. How can I listen to those tracks on my MP3 player?

At the time of this writing, this task is not possible. The tracks that you download from the iTunes Music Store contain Digital Rights Management technology called FairPlay that prevents them from being transferred to non-iPod devices. iTunes also has barriers meant to prevent you from transferring digital audio files purchased from other download services onto your iPod through iTunes. There is much debate about this topic, and some countries (specifically France) have been tossing around legislation meant to fight these restrictions. None of these debates have been resolved as of yet.

If you use iTunes and a non-iPod audio player, you’d be better off ripping audio tracks from CDs instead of downloading them from the iTunes Music Store. Just be sure that when you purchase a CD, the disc does not come with DRM technology that prevents you from copying the tracks to a computer.
