Record Streaming Internet Audio with Audacity

Is there any way to record the audio I can hear streaming over the Internet?

Windows and Linux users: You can record streaming Internet audio with everyone’s favorite free open-source audio editing software: Audacity. Audacity is available free of charge, and can be used to record whatever is coming off of your PC’s sound board.

Recording streaming audio with Audacity is a breeze. In fact, this Audacity help article contains all you need to know. Here’s the gist of it:

Download and install Audacity. If you plan on saving MP3 files, you will need to follow Audacity’s instructions for downloading and installing the LAME MP3 encoder.

Start up Audacity and choose the appropriate input device. You will see a drop-down box in the toolbar across the top of the Audacity window - this is where you select the input device. Its exact name depends on what type of sound card your computer has.

Hit the record button and off you go. If you see a flat line scrolling across your screen, this indicates that no sound is being recorded. Try selecting a different input device.
