Do you want to reorganize your calendar, but have apprehension about re-entering all of the appointments in your existing calendars? Don’t sweat it — you’ve entered all that data once, so you should never need to re-type it again. However you plan on reorganizing your calendar, iCal’s importing and exporting features will definitely come in handy.
iCal’s import/export functionality writes all of your appoints to a data file that you can keep on the side until it’s needed. English Mac site Mac OS X Tips is running a tutorial on using import and export to combine two or more iCal calendars into one new calendar.
“If you start off with two separate calendars it is fairly easy to merge them into one if you later decide to. Luckily you don’t need to go through every single event and change the details. You can do them all in one with the export command.”
The process for performing this merge is quite simple. Choose the calendar to be merged from, and export it. Then import the data file back into iCalendar, being sure to select the calendar to be merged to as the destination.
iCal’s export feature isn’t just limited to iCal — you can also use it to move your appointments from iCal to another application, such as Google Calendar. Log into Google Calendar, click “Settings”, and then click “Import Calendar” to get started.
