Ubuntu is a computer operating system from the long line of Linux distributions. An operating system is the software that specializes in managing your computer’s various resources, allowing you to interact with the machine. Microsoft Windows an operating system, Mac OS X is an operating system, and so is Ubuntu.
Ubuntu is built upon the Linux kernel and it’s free software ideologies. A kernel implements the most basic operations of a computer, forming the basic platform upon which an operating system like Ubuntu can be built.
