Send a very large file to someone

Wednesday, May 17, 2006

I need to send a very large file to someone, but their e-mail service keeps rejecting my message because the attachment is too big. Is there another way to deliver this file?

There are a number of free web-based services that act as intermediaries for large file transfers. You upload your file to the service, who in turn makes that file available to your recipient without going through either of your mail servers. One such service is SendOver.com. SendOver.com will let you upload any file (up to 2 gigabytes in size), and then send an e-mail notice to your recipient. If you prefer not to enter your e-mail addresses, you can leave them blank and sendover.com will let you copy and paste a special link that your recipient can click on to receive the file. Furthermore, sendover.com will even let you assign a password to your file so that you can be sure no one else is downloading it.
