How to mount a mac drive on a PC


A quick intro since this is my first post. As Tom mentioned my name is Matt Herzberger and I am web designer from Texas. I am very excited about posting on this site since I have been a fan for quite awhile. My inspiration for this post is a problem I am facing at work right now. We have a split Mac / PC office and for some reason the Mac people have kept the PC people in the dark that you can mount a Mac drive on a PC. It’s actually very simple and here is the process. On a mac you
  • Click the Go menu at top >> Connect to server
  • Then you enter the server address and it will usually be one of two options
    • afp://example.com, or
    • smb://example.com
  • Pretty basic and simple
How do you do mount that mac drive on a PC?
  • Click the start menu >> Run
  • It will bring up a “open” prompt
  • Then take the url from above
    • IE smb:// or afp://example.com
  • all you need is the “example” portion
  • Type in \\example
  • You are all mounted!!!
  • You may want to right click and choose “Create shortcut” to make it easy next time.
