iAlertU camera panel photographs laptop thiefEarlier this morning I published “Protect Your Laptop in Public Spaces With an Alarm“, which described Windows software that would sound an alarm if your laptop were to be stolen. I also proposed that a good Mac version of that software might monitor the laptop’s internal motion detection system and use that as a trigger for it’s alarm. Fortunately, Of Zen and Computing readers are a sharp bunch. Benedict Reuschling called my error in the comments by pointing out iAlarmU.

iAlarmU is anti-theft software for your Mac that your laptop’s sudden motion sensor (SMS) to detect movement and then trigger and audible and visual alarm. The alarm can also be trigger by mouse movement, and will continue to sound even after the screen has been closed. iAlertU will even use the built-in iSight camera to photograph the laptop thief and e-mail the evidence straight to your inbox.
