Text message alerts are awesome - for a while now my Google Calendar has been reminding me of my most important appointments by sending an SMS message to my mobile phone. The Apple fans out there might be interested to know that iCal can send text message reminders as well. A punctual reader of productivity blog Lifehacker shows us how:
“If you add your phone’s email address as an emailing option in your Address Book vCard, you can choose it as an option to email a reminder. Set the date, time and reminder and, Bam—you have a cell phone reminder.”
Basically, your text message inbox can be reached at an e-mail address, e.g. [phone number]@vtext.com for Verizon users. Since iCal alarms can be set to send e-mails, you can have iCal text your phone via e-mail. Check out the Lifehacker article for further instructions.
