Remove MacBook Discoloration With a Pencil Eraser

Sunday, September 9, 2007

A common everyday pencil eraser can get rid of unsightly stains on your MacBook, according to Mac blog Mac OS X Hints. If you have noticed your Apple laptop changing color in the spots where your palms lie, give this trick a shot:

“You can use a pencil eraser to remove the discoloration that appears around the MacBook palm rest area, on either side of the touchpad. It takes a quite a bit of effort, and it definitely seems that plastic erasers are best (rather than India rubber), but it’s an effective non-chemical method.”

My old PowerBook has suffered from the same discoloration, so I will be giving this a shot as soon as I can track down the right type of eraser.
