I have a Linksys WRT-54G wireless router, and I would like to put a password on my wireless network. How can I do that?
Very easily! Here is how to password protect your wrt-54g powered WiFi network:
Access the Administration Panel
You can secure your network through the router’s administration panel. Open up a web browser such as Internet Explorer or Firefox, put 192.168.1.1 in the address field, and press enter/return. The router will ask you for a username and password. If you have not set up your own username and password, the default credentials are username: admin, password: admin.
By the way, if you have not changed your router’s password, you should take care of that right now. Click Administration, click on Management, and fill a new password into “Router Password” and “Re-enter to confirm”. Press the “Save Settings” button.
Set Up Wireless Security
Click on the Wireless tab, then click on Wireless Security. Change “Security Mode” to WPA Personal. Type your password into “WPA Shared Key” and press “Save Settings”. As soon as you save these settings, the router will boot you off the wireless network. You will have to reconnect by supplying the password from “WPA Shared Key”.
