Windows DreamScene, the Vista Ultimate extra that enables video in place of desktop wallpaper, has finally been released according to the Vista Ultimate blog.
DreamScene is one of Vista Ultimate’s “Extras” — tiny baubles released by Microsoft to add fun and functionality to the operating system. Unfortunately, DreamScene is the first and only Ultimate Extra to be released. Overall, Vista’s Extras (or lack thereof) have been met with skepticism and disappointment by many users.
The first of Vista’s Extras, including DreamScene and extra language packs, were originally slated for a summer 2007 release. DreamScene has just now hit the scene in September, and we are still without the language packs. Notable blogger Chris Pirillo wonders why language packs are even considered an “Ultimate add-on” in the first place, rather a core feature to all versions of the OS.
So if you’ve been waiting around for video wallpaper in Vista Ultimate, DreamScene is finally here. And if motion desktops give you nightmares, at least you still have some language packs to look forward to.
