How to Fix iexplore.exe Error “0×62304390″

Wednesday, October 3, 2007

Whenever I close a program or try to log out of my computer, I get an error message that claims “… the instruction at 0×62304390 referenced memory at 0×62304390. The memory could not be read”. What happened? How can I fix this?

A quick bit of searching reveals that the culprit may be Yahoo! software. Even though the error message complains about Internet Explorer (iexplore.exe), it is actually the Yahoo! Toolbar/Messenger that is causing issues. Here are a number of message board threads discussing this error:

Almost everyone complaining about this error message reports that uninstalling the Yahoo! Toolbar and Yahoo! Messenger fixed everything. Some also recommend uninstalling and reinstalling the software, or upgrading to Internet Explorer 7. I suggest you start with uninstalling the toolbar and messenger, then try out the other suggestions if necessary.

The reason that Yahoo! is the culprit despite the error message referencing Internet Explorer is that Yahoo!’s Toolbar and Messenger software both integrate with Internet Explorer. Since they work together, Windows sees the problem as stemming from IE.
