Real Player Security Vulnerability Patched

Tuesday, October 23, 2007

Real Player logoThe Real Player security vulnerability that we reported yesterday has been addressed by the folks at Real, who have released a patch to fix the issue.

In order to secure their PCs, users of Real Player and Internet Explorer should upgrade their media player, to either version 10.5 or 11. Once the upgrade is complete, Real’s patch should be installed.

The patch addresses a security issue which affects certain users of Real’s media player software. Windows PC users who employ Real Player in conjunction with Microsoft Internet Explorer suffered from a security hole that would allow malicious code to be downloaded to the person’s computer. Real Player version 8 and earlier are not affected by the vulnerability.
