Text messaging and e-mail go hand in hand - did you know that you can send almost anyone a text message straight to their phone from your e-mail account? Each wireless provider has an e-mail address set up for their users’ text messaging inboxes, and you can drop a text message to a person’s phone by writing an e-mail to that address.
Wikipedia’s SMS Gateways page lists the format each wireless provider uses for the e-mail addresses that correspond to their customers’ text message inboxes. These e-mail addresses are usually in the form of [mobile number]@example.com. For instance, here are the addresses for some of the major wireless carriers in the US (in each example, the person’s phone number is 234-555-1234):
- AT&T Wireless
2345551234@cingularme.com - Sprint (Nextel)
2345551234@page.nextel.com - T-Mobile
2345551234@tomomail.net - Verizon
2345551234@vtext.com - Virgin Mobile
2345551234@vmobl.com
