If you are a Mac user who is in the market for a new iPhone or iPod Touch, you should know that both devices require the latest version of Apple’s operating system.
The system requirements of both the iPhone and the iPod Touch state that Mac OS X 10.4.10 (Tiger) is a must. What’s the big deal? Apple computers purchased before April 29, 2005 do not meet these minimum system requirements unless you purchase an upgrade to the operating system. If an Apple salesman fails to mention this, and you fail to read the fine print, Apple Support is going to tell you that you’re stuck. There is nothing you can do besides return the device or purchase the Mac OS X upgrade. If you do opt to return it, be prepared to argue your way out of the 10% re-stocking fee.
If you really want your iPod Touch/iPhone, Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard is being released tomorrow, October 26th. And if you have up to five members of your household interested in purchasing the upgrade, you can all pitch in and buy the Leopard Family Pack.
