In “AT&T: Tethering Coming to the iPhone Soon” Harry McCracken writes that AT&T boss Ralph De La Vega told Mike Arrington of TechCrunch that tethering is indeed on the way for Apple’s mobile gadget.
“Tethering” refers to using one’s mobile phone as a modem with which to get a laptop computer online from the road. Most other mobile phones with data capabilities allow tethering, but the feature was withheld from the iPhone. Some allege that decision was made as a result of fears that iPhone users would eat up too much bandwidth on AT&T’s 3G network.
